The 25th annual Dayton Band Playoffs began at Canal Street Tavern in early June with 24 competitors with no dominant style. Bands ranged from hard rockers (Savant, Six Cloves) and acoustic rock (Goodfoot, Alec Delphenich Trio) to groove bands (Boondah, SOL) and pop acts (Atticus Loud, Stump). In the end, newcomers Magic Jackson — a funk rock band — were crowned winners, narrowly beating piano-pop duo The Joose Box. More »

Comedian Rich Vos plans to give Flavor Flav a run for his money. Or maybe just his mailman. The comedian, who is busy trying to come up with the perfect TV pilot that would best something as exciting as "Sleep with Flavor Flav's Mailman," is ready to make his debut on the comedy stage in Dayton. Tell me if you've seen this one — Michael Cera plays a slightly awkward, heartbroken young guy amidst a bunch of drunken partygoers … antics ensue. Although the plot doesn't stray too far from Superbad, this comedy about one hilarious, sleepless night of adventure in a world of mix tapes, and loud, live music should be worth a few laughs at Cera's expense.More »

The Melting Pot's fondue dining concept is certainly distinctive. Here, the diners are the chefs.
